Police agencies all around the country including the Yakima Police Department are in the spotlight after the death of George Floyd killed by an officer in Minneapolis. Each officer with the Yakima Police Department is trained in specific tactics to arrest and restrain suspects and currently those policies and tactics are under review says Capt. Jay Seely. He says the department works with a company called Lexiopol which helps the department issue it's policies and helps in police training. Seely says policies are constantly updated based on best practices or case law. However he says because of what happened in Minneapolis the department decided to review policies immediately to make sure officers are being trained and doing their jobs correctly. The Yakima City Council plans to talk about the protests and police policies at a future meeting.
