Yakima Police arrested known gang members during a gang emphasis last week following a rash of deadly gang shootings in the city this month. Capt. Gary Jones says Yakima SWAT officers along with officers from the State Department of Corrections and the Violent Offender Task Force focused on gang members with outstanding warrants...Jones says 15 people were arrested during the emphasis. "Eight of those were known gang members. We're also working with our federal partners on the firearms charges to see if they're interested in charging under federal law."
Jones says several of those gang members face charges of unlawfully possessing firearms. Jones says they decided to make the arrests last Thursday during the Yakima Police Department's SWAT training week in response to the rash of gang shootings reported in the month of May.
Along with 15 arrests, 8 of which were gang members, officers issued 7 traffic citations, served 19 warrants and recovered 2 stolen guns.
