Yakima Police are investigating a burglary reported in West Valley on Thursday afternoon in which the homeowner had to lock himself in a bathroom while calling police. Capt. Jay Seely says officers were called to a home in the 9200 block of Honeycrisp Court near Apple Tree Golf Course at about 2:45 p.m. The resident heard glass breaking while calling 911 in the bathroom of the home.
When the officers arrived two suspects ran from the home. One of the suspects got into his vehicle and started to drive away but officers stopped and arrested the man. Seely says stolen items from the home were found in the car. While officers were arresting the first suspect the second suspect ran off and stole a work van from a local company working down the street. That's when Yakima County Sheriff's Deputies arrived to help. Seely says Deputies pursued the stolen work van. The van eventually stopped after ramming a deputy’s patrol car. The second suspect was taken into custody.  Both suspects are sitting in the Yakima County jail on charges of residential burglary and other felony charges. Seely says one of the suspects has a lengthy criminal record for theft and is well known to police.
