Yakima Officer Remains In Critical Condition After Jail Attack
A Yakima Police Corrections Officer Ed Opsahl has been transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition after being assaulted at the Yakima City jail last Thursday.

The Yakima Police Corrections division has set up an account with Wheatland Bank. The bank is accepting donations on behalf of Corrections Officer Ed Opsahl and his family.
Meanwhile the 37-year-old suspect was in court Monday where bail was set at $500,000.
He's charged with first-degree assault in the attack. The bank is located at 201 E Yakima Ave #101.
Opsahl was violently attacked inside a cell as he was delivering food to the 37-year-old inmate when he was attacked and knocked unconscious.
The case remains under investigation Today.
The attack was caught on video
A release on the Yakima Police Department Facebook page says "corrections staff immediately requested emergency assistance. Multiple Yakima Police Officers responded to the jail. The suspect was encountered by the first responding officer at which point the suspect would not comply with orders to surrender and force was used to take him into custody. In taking the suspect into custody, responding officers found the victim Officer unconscious inside the cell."
Authorities helped the officer until emergency medical personnel arrived. Police say the officer sustained significant injuries during the assault.
The investigation continues Today as authorities review video and consider other charges against the inmate. The Yakima Police Internal Affairs Unit is leading the investigation into this incident.
