Volunteers who operate the Yakima Ice Rink says even though copper thieves burglarized the facility on Monday they're preparing to open in January. Volunteer Dane Pierone says when he arrived Monday night he found the facility in a sad shape. Thieves had forced their way into the facility kicking in doors and stealing anything and everything of any value including a lot of copper wire. The thieves even wrote a note on a board that reads "Thanks for the copper...copper bandits." Pierone says among other things the thieves stole led lights, a microwave the mirror out of the bathroom, tools, cash registers, stereos and broke into vending machines. Every container had been opened and the thieves even stole extension cords. Volunteers say however despite the setback they are continuing to work to reopen the facility in late January for local kids to enjoy the ice rink located 1700 E Beech Street in Yakima.
A Go Fund Me page has been started for the Yakima Ice Rink. So far they've raised $2400 toward a $50,000 goal. https://www.gofundme.com/f/rw4ep-a-cause-i-care-about-needs-help
