Three Council Members Against Police and Fire Cuts in Yakima

Yakima City Council members Patricia Byers, Holly Cousens, and Matt Brown have united to "strongly oppose any potential cuts to front line emergency responders."

A press release from Brown says the three stand against the proposed cuts that reduce the number of dedicated police officers and firefighters within the city. The three council members are pledging to explore all available options to "ensure the safety and security of the community."

The release says they firmly believe that front line emergency responders, including police officers and firefighters "play an indispensable role in safeguarding the community and responding to critical situations effectively."

Council members Byers, Cousens, and Brown say they "firmly stand for funding front line emergency responders, including police officers and firefighters, and pledge to exhaust all viable options to protect the community's well-being."
The release was issued Tuesday after the completion of budget study sessions. The council members say any reduction of emergency responders in Yakima would place residents in danger and compromise safety and security.

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.
