The Yakima City Council will wait until May to deal with the issue of lifting the city's pot sales ban.

But the council also decided against sending the question to the Planning Commission for recommendations on zoning. Without the Planning Commission's recommendation, City Council members could approve pot businesses that wouldn't face land use restrictions other than what are outlined in Washington state law.

The council is expected to talk about the issue again on May 17. Council members Bill Lover and Holly Cousens were the only two members who voted against delaying the vote until May.

State law prevents marijuana retail stores from being located within 1,000 feet of public buildings as well as libraries, parks schools and churches.
