Masks are now a requirement of life on the Yakama reservation. The Tribal Council this week has issued a public safety order making masks mandatory. The masks are now required when in any indoor public setting or outdoor public setting when a person can't maintain 6 foot social distance. A news release says Yakama Nation Tribal Police will enforce the order by issuing civil citations to both individuals and businesses in violation of the order in the amounts of $50 to $500 per violation.
The citations will be enforceable in Yakama Nation Tribal Court.
The news release also says businesses may not serve customers who do not wear a face covering or mask unless the customer is exempt. Exemptions include any child under two,  people instructed not to wear a mask by a healthcare professional, people with a disability that prevents easily wearing or removing a face covering, or those people who are deaf or speaking someone who is deaf.
