Here comes more stagnant air in the Yakima Valley.

Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency has issued a Stage 2 burn ban due to forecasted weather conditions that will be contributing to a build-up of air pollutants.

When Does the Stage 2 Burn Ban Go Into Effect? For How Long?

The Stage 2 Burn Ban has taken effect as of Wednesday afternoon for all of the Yakima County area, but the Yakima Clean Air Agency notes that restrictions may differ within the exterior boundaries of the Yakama Reservation. The duration is unknown at this time, so the ban stays in place until further notice.

What is Not Allowed During a Stage 2 Burn Ban in Yakima County?

According to the Yakima Clean Air Agency:

  • The use of any wood burning stove, fireplace, fireplace inserts, pellet stove and other solid fuel burning devices is prohibited. Unless the devise is the only source of adequate heat within the home or business.
  • All outdoor burning is prohibited throughout Yakima County.
  •  All violations of the burn ban are subject to civil penalty.

Will The Burn Ban Be Downgraded Before Being Lifted Entirely?

YCAA says:

This burn ban may be downgraded or removed depending on air quality and weather conditions. Please check our website for the latest information, yakimacleanair.org.

Cloudy skies, calm wind, and only a slight chance of rain over the next several days may mean this situation will stick with us for a while. Certainly, the dreaded patchy freezing fog predicted for Thursday night and Friday won't help much either.
