Young volleyball players from around the region will swarm Yakima this weekend as Team Yakima Volleyball Club hosts the 40th annual Northwest Junior Jamboree.

The tournament, which will include 109 teams of elementary, middle and high school students, will be staged in 33 gyms around the area. The age range is fourth grade through high school.

The Yakima organization is a developmental junior Olympic program that helps young women grow their skills through "coaching instruction, practice, physical conditioning and competition," according to the club philosophy outlined on the organization's website.

Play begins at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Click here for details on the tournament and for the latest updates on results.
