Like doctors and dentists even veterinarians in Yakima are taking major precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Many of the offices remain open but many are requiring you call before you arrive for an appointment. Dr. Lutz Harfst at Animal Medical Service is Yakima says he's very concerned about his employees being exposed. He asks people to call when they arrive in the parking lot. Staff members then walk out to the car and retrieve the pet that needs attention even placing their own collars on the pets to avoid any contamination.
All payments are being asked to be made over the phone with a credit card so no one has to touch any machines. He says they're not accepting cash because a virus could be passed on through money.

Dr. Harfst says there's no evidence COVID-19 is spread to or through dogs or cats or any other animal.
