Two Christmas Classics Debuted On This Day In History
About the only thing these two classics share in common is just how much they are loved by audiences everywhere.
One is a 127 year old world wide favorite featuring grace, color, imagination and music. The other is imaginative too, featuring the good folks from Who...ville, with a central focus on the color green, a fabulous tale that has to be seen.
On December 16, 1892, Peter Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker Suite premiered in St. Petersburg, Russia and has become a celebrated Holiday classic ever since.
Then on December 16,1966, 104 years after the first dance of the Sugar Plum Faries, the classic Christmas cartoon, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, aired for the first time on CBS. The made up word "Grinch" became part of the Christmas culture.
Dr. Seuss, Mr. Tchaikovsky...well played!
