Tweets Sink Trump Supporter’s Campaign for Port Commission
TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A man running for the Port of Tacoma commission has pulled out of the race over posting what he now says were "insensitive, unacceptable and unkind" comments on Twitter about women, African-Americans and others.
The News Tribune reports 37-year-old Jim Jensen apologized in a Wednesday statement, saying that he wrote things on Twitter that he doesn't believe and would never think were acceptable to say.
A Tacoma environmental activist group and many others seized on the tweets this week and posted screenshots of them to social media. Jensen's Twitter account was recently deleted.
Many of the tweets go back more than a year and show the writer effusively praising President Donald Trump, blaming black people for crimes against whites and for not obeying police orders, gloating about the writer's wealth while disparaging others, and making misogynistic remarks.
