Someone will die today of a drug overdose in Washington State. Someone will die tomorrow as well. Local and state officials are doing everything possible to stop the deaths but it's a struggle because so many people are addicted to drugs in the state. So far 37 people have died of an drug overdose in Yakima County this year.

More help is on the way however as free life-saving opioid overdose reversal kits are now available to order free of charge from the state of Washington. The kits contain the life-saving medication called naloxone or narcan which reverses an overdose caused by opioids like fetanyl, heroin and narcotics like oxycodone.

The program is being operated by the nonprofit the People's Harm Reduction Alliance giving Washington residents a chance to order the naloxone kits from the Washington State Department of Health for free. You can order the kits at http://phra.org/naloxone

THE KITS ARE THE RESULT OF A LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT

Teva, the pharmacy company plans to send some 54,000 kits to Washington residents free of charge as part of a resolution in $90.7 million lawsuit filed by the state Attorney General's Office for the role the company played in helping to push the opioid epidemic. All pharmacies in Washington are able to provide naloxone to people directly, without a prescription.

THE LIFE SAVING DRUG IS AVAILABLE THROUGH VENDING MACHINES IN YAKIMA AND MANY OTHER AREAS

If you live in Yakima you don't have to wait for help in the mail. Naloxone is available in vending machines. A vending machine is located Opportunities Industrialization Center at 717 Fruitvale Blvd. and at Yakamart on Fort Road in Toppenish.
