The great Charlie Daniels proudly sings that “the South’s gonna do it again.” I don’t think history is on his side, but history will get a second chance this weekend (April 30 and May 1) during the Annual WCWA Civil War Re-enactment at Historical Fort Simcoe, just a few miles west of White Swan.

The historical repeat is open to the public from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.. with activities all day, plus a skirmish involving infantry, cannons and horse cavalry scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.

The official raising of the fort flag is set for high noon Saturday with local veterans groups, military and civilian re-enactors from all over the state on hand to demonstrate the era of the American Civil War. The weekend will include the lifestyle, uniforms, clothing, weapons and tactics of the period.
