Texas Woman Disappears at Sunset Falls; Searches Fruitless

INDEX, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say a 25-year-old Texas woman disappeared northeast of Seattle at Sunset Falls Tuesday night.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office says the woman was with her mother sitting on a rock at the falls near the Skykomish River. Her mother told authorities that she turned away, and when she looked back, her daughter was gone.

Snohomish County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Shari Ireton says it's unknown if the woman fell into the water. An extensive search by air and in the water around the falls has failed to find the woman.

No additional large scale searches are planned.

Ireton didn't know where in Texas the woman was from and didn't release the woman's name at the family's request.

A 49-year-old man fell into the river in the same area June 17. Searchers have been unable to find him.
