With the 2019 tax season right around the corner the Yakima County Sheriff's officials and Yakima Police are warning of an IRS scam. Authorities say people are getting an automated call saying it's the IRS and that the person owes money and will face arrest unless they call a certain number.
Yakima Police say last year a man has lost thousands of dollars in the popular scam. They say the man was told to purchase gift cards in the amount of $6,000 and send them to an address in Washington D.C.and that's what he did. Police say the man was able to get some money back after learning of the scam but he still lost thousands of dollars.

Authorities say if you get the call hang up. And know the Internal Revenue Service would never threaten anyone with arrest and if you do owe money you'd receive a letter not a phone call from the IRS.
