Despite the pandemic jury trials continue in Yakima County Superior Court after a number of precautions were put in place including jury selection being held at the Yakima Sundome to allow social distancing. Yakima County Prosecutor Joe Brusic says since restarting jury trials in September they've conducted 3 felony trials with no problems and no jurors contracting the virus. And Brusic says there's been a high turnout for those called to jury duty.
Brusic says a true test of the new system will happen next month when 3 defendants will go on trial for the December 2019 fatal beating of a fellow inmate in the Yakima County jail. Brusic says some 200 plus jurors will have to be called for the trial.
