Yakima Signal Upgrade Wednesday Could Slow Your Commute

More road and signal work continues in the city as the summer winds down toward the fall. Yakima City crews have been busy upgrading traffic signals throughout the city this summer and another upgrade happens on Wednesday, August 17. The work will impact the intersection of Yakima Avenue and 3rd Avenue. Crews will be upgrading the traffic signal heads at the intersection from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm Wednesday.

The signal will not be working during the upgrade work

A press release says the traffic signal will not be in operation during the work hours. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction with stop signs at the 4-way stop. Remember the 4 way stop rule when you learned to drive? You'll have to use that rule at the intersection on Wednesday.

Road work is happening all around the city with different crews

Other road and underground work is happening in different areas of the city including work by the Nob Hill Water Association near 40th and Summitview this week.
Drivers are reminded the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones within the city of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour. A Yakima city press release says as always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.

More upgrades are planned this summer

This is one in a series of traffic signal upgrades the City is planning for intersections along Yakima Avenue this summer. The improvements include upgrading to larger, more efficient 12-inch LED signal heads.
