Service Above Self? Then This Is The Path For You!
The US Military Academies aren't exactly the model for Faber College and Animal House-type activities. They are special places designed for the cream of the crop of each generation's youth - the special people who put service before self. And you just can't drop off a transcript and hope to get in. Good grades, leadership, community involvement, public service, all those things count too.
It goes without saying you also have to be willing to move.
- The United States Military Academy (USMA) in West Point, New York, founded in 1802
- The United States Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, Maryland, founded in 1845
- The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) in Colorado Springs, Colorado, founded in 1954
- The United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) in New London, Connecticut, founded in 1876
- The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) in Kings Point, New York, founded in 1943
In fact, for all the academies except the Coast Guard, you need to have congressional support to be considered! For us in Central Washington, that means the fourth Congressional District and U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse.
The congressman is announcing Military Service Academy Info Sessions will take place via Zoom from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM PST in the week ahead. Interested students should RSVP here to receive the Zoom meeting link and/or call-in information.
