Rod's House was awarded a $20,000 grant by the Yakima Valley Community Foundation. The money will go towards helping homeless youth become better prepared for jobs. Each child will have their skills and strengths evaluated and so they can be connected to appropriate educational or job training programs.

There are currently 950 homeless children living in on the streets in Yakima County. Rod's House is the only local organization geared toward assisting homeless children.

"We're really home for these kids. We're their Thanksgiving, we're their Christmas. We're their moms and dads they got to share with," said Rod’s House Executive Director Jill Sunwold.

Rod's House currently helps 30 kids a night, but in the winter that number can grow to over 50.
