The Yakima County Canvassing Board met Monday at the Yakima County Auditors office to review 17 challenged ballots from the November general election. Auditor Charles Ross says the board reviewed the ballots and tried and resolve any problems with the ballots. The board will meet again Tuesday to certify the election when the counting will be officially over. The new ballot totals will then be released on Tuesday afternoon. The 17 challenged ballots could make a difference in three close races.

City of Sunnyside Council Position 5. Mike Farmer has been declared the winner over  Julia Hart 539 votes vs. Hart's 538 votes.

City of Wapato Council Position 5. Frances Ayres is the victor over Tony Guzman. Ayres with 163 votes vs. Guzman with 162 votes.

City of Union Gap Council Position 5. David Hansen is the victor over David Matson. Hansen with 308 votes vs. Matson's 306 votes.

Ross says a hand recount will be held in all the races on December 5.  If any race is tied after the recount the winner is determined by a coin toss.
