Republicans Now Charged With Replacing Commissioner
Yakima County Commissioner Norm Childress has passed away.
With the passing of Yakima County Commissioner Norm Childress local republicans will soon get to work to find his replacement. Childress died this week after being diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer just weeks ago. His family says he spent a short time in hospice care at his home in Grandview.
Childress served as one of three Yakima County Commissioners and was elected in November of 2018 to his post in District 3. He also served many years as the Mayor of Grandview.
Because Childress was a republican, the Yakima County Republican Party will find three replacements. The person appointed to fill the remainder of Childress' term will ultimately be chosen by the current Yakima County Commissioners.
There's no word on when that process will begin.
