Regulators Inspecting Railroad Along Columbia River Gorge

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — State and federal inspectors are inspecting railroad tracks along the Columbia River Gorge this week after the fiery crude oil train derailment in Oregon this month.

The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission said Monday it has sent two track inspectors to work with the Federal Railroad Administration to inspect BNSF Railway's tracks along the Washington side of the Columbia River, between Vancouver and Pasco.

The inspectors are making sure that that the tracks meet federal safety guidelines.

The inspections come in response to the June 23 fiery derailment. A 96-car train carrying Bakken crude oil bound for Tacoma derailed, and four cars caught fire. No one was injured.
