Some of the major thoroughfares in Yakima will get a little bit more than a spit and polish during the final week of August.

The city of Yakima will be completing what is called a "grind and overlay" on 16th, 40th, Tieton and Walnut streets from August 26th through 29th.

KAPP TV says that the roads will be closed from in different parts of these streets.

Both Tieton Drive (between 40th and 32nd Avenues) and 40th Avenue (between Tieton Drive and Summitview Avenue) will have night time construction. Road crews will be closing both roads from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.

Walnut Street (between 1st and 6th Streets) and 16th Avenue (between Englewood avenue and River Road) will see single lane closures from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This schedule is subject to change if the crews run into weather or equipment difficulties.
