An Oregon man is raising awareness about diabetes with a more than 3,000-mile bicycle ride from Portland, Ore., to New York City. Forty-eight-year-old Gregory Reese made a stop in Yakima on Tuesday before continuing his ride across Washington state in what he's calling Cycle for Sight. Reese has a history of diabetes in his family -- in fact his mother died of diabetic shock at the young age of 50.
Reese is stopping in cities across America and getting help from churches and other service organizations that cover some of his expenses. Reese has also created a GoFundme page to help fund the ride. https://www.gofundme.com/cycling-for-sight-portland-to-new-york
Reese says he wants to bring awareness about the danger of poor diet and high sugar intake that can lead to diabetes.
Reese started his trip June 29 and hopes to reach New York on Aug. 8.
