New VFW Commander Welcomes All For 9/11 Memorial

Yakima's VFW Post 379 has a new Commander, Shad Kautzman is his name and while he sees the social aspect of the VFW as a place for like minded Vets of all ages to hang out, he also sees an expanded role for the club to help returning vets transition back to society.  He also wants to grow the VFW's  impact in the the community.

Kautzman was a combat engineer in Iraq and also helped provide security for convoys and he knows all too well the challenge of moving from the constant alertness and high stress of the combat zone to the relaxed pace of back home.  Things civilians take for granted, sounds, movements, etc. can trigger or alarm veterans as they put in the time and work to remake their place in the non-military world.

Friday 9/11/20 is the 19th anniversary of the attack on the twin towers, the pentagon and the flight that went down in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.  The Post has  a memorial and celebration planned and they are inviting everyone to attend.
