Cherry growers from throughout the Northwest will gather at the Yakima Convention Center on Friday for the 70th annual Cherry Institute. James Michael, with Northwest Cherry Growers, says it is a day of education for growers. Growers learn the newest techniques and have a chance to talk with other farmers from throughout the region.

Michael says 2012 was a great year for growers who shipped some 23 million boxes of cherries all over the world. He says growers are looking for a better season this year.

The 70th annual Cherry Institute will be held Friday at the Yakima Convention Center.
