I was lucky enough to stop by the 2023 Chalk Art Event held in downtown Yakima. They held it in Performance Park, next to the Yakima District Courthouse. The sidewalks between Staff Sgt. Pendleton Way and the edge of Performance Park were blocked off for pedestrians and participants. A couple thousand Yakima residents come downtown throughout the day to check out the abundance of talented chalk artists that live here.

The Downtown Association of Yakima (DAY) puts on this event annually, and it’s exciting to see more artists joining the competition each year. The Chalk Art Festival is always free to enter, and chalk is provided complimentary by the DAY staff and sponsors.

There are amateurs and professional chalk artists who love to be a part of this fun family-friendly community celebration. Part of the street is even blocked off just for kids (who are not in the competition).

I got there a bit too early, so I didn’t get to view all 20 of the competitors’ chalk drawings, but the ones that I did get to see were just WOW!

This year's chalk art festival theme was "Carnival." 🎡

The entries that I saw did not disappoint. You can view pics of previous year's chalk art entries and winners here.

I hope you get to attend the Chalk Art Festival 2024, either as a participant or as an admirer like me!
