If you are a Manchester United fan, it has been a struggle for most years after the retirement of the greatest manager in the history of the game, Sir Alex Ferguson.

Since the end of the 2012-13 campaign, when Ferguson left the helm of the Red Devils, the team has found silverware scarce. If you count the F.A. Community Shield as a trophy, Manchester United has won just five trophies since the end of the 12-13 season: the 2013 Community Shield, the 2016 F.A. Cup, the 2016 Community Shield, the 2016-17 EFL Cup, and the 2016-17 UEFA Europa League.

But there have been some glimmers of hope for fans and bettors that this team is about to break through and win more silverware. The Red Devils finished second in the Premier League last season behind winners Manchester City, lost on penalty kicks in the Europa League Final to Villareal, and made it deep into the two domestic cups.

So as we look at the odds to win some of the tournaments around the various sportsbooks in America, is there one or more competitions that bettors can target as a value bet on the Red Devils?

The Premier League odds are out (of course, with the start just two weeks away on Friday, August 13), and Manchester United is the fourth choice (odds of +800) to win the title. Most people will be backing Manchester City, which has won three of the last four titles, at odds of -160 and jumping quickly. Liverpool and Chelsea are both priced at odds of +500 by the bookies.

Can Manchester United compete with those teams and win a scrap at the top of the table? Personally, even with the signings of Raphaël Varane and Jadon Sancho, I think this team is still a year away from competing with Manchester City, even though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gets the better of Pep Guardiola most of the time in the head to head battles. The Red Devils might need a little time to gel, and might still be a defensive midfielder and another defender away from being able to battle over a 38-game schedule. But that price of +800 might be worth a shot.

What about the F.A. Cup? Manchester United is the second choice to win that cup at odds of +700, along with Chelsea and Liverpool. Manchester City is the first choice at +350, with Arsenal +1200 and defending champions Leicester City priced at +1400. The F.A. Cup has become a little bit of a second-choice competition for teams with deep squads, hence the reason the big four teams lead the way. The Red Devils could break through and win this.

The EFL Carabao Cup, which has been Manchester City’s of late (four in a row and five of six), could be another chance for United to break through under Solskjaer.

But if you want to take a shot on the best value odds, why not back Manchester United to win the UEFA Champions League? City is (once again) the favorite at +300, with Paris Saint Germain second choice at +550. Manchester United is all the way down at +1400, but if you have followed this competition of late, you will know it English teams have won two of the last three and made up five of the eight finalists since the start of 2017-18.

Chelsea came from down the futures odds last year to win, so why not Manchester United in 2022?
