The former Mayor of the city of Yakima was in court on Friday charged with residential burglary and first-degree theft. Avina Gutierrez was released as per the county pre-trial release program.
Prosecutors say she burglarized her mothers' Yakima home stealing items worth more than $30,000. The trial for the 41-year-old former Yakima City Council member is set for January 19.
She was arrested on a warrant on October 15 in King County where she was living at the time.
She was elected in 2015 but failed to gain re-election in the 2017 primary election.
