Yakima Hosts Aviation Day and Downtown Mile Race This Saturday

This Saturday you'll have a chance to enjoy airplanes during Yakima's Aviation Day at the airport and watch athletes run in downtown Yakima during the 7th Annual Downtown Yakima Mile.

A BIG EVENT LANDS AT THE AIRPORT SATURDAY MORNING

The Yakima Airport is gearing up for its 3rd annual Aviation Day, a free family-fun event set for June 6 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. If you attend you can enjoy free admission and parking while exploring a variety of aviation displays and activities for the entire family.
A highlight this year is the appearance of a historic P-51 Mustang, offering a rare photo opportunity for classic car owners. Limited slots are available for photos, so airport officials encourage car owners to register early. Yakima Avenue will be shut down between 11th Avenue and 3rd Street beginning at 3:00 pm Saturday, June 6.

YOU CAN RUN THE AVENUE ON SATURDAY NIGHT

Then Saturday night you can join your fellow Yakima residents and runners from around the country signed up for the 7th Annual Downtown Yakima Mile.
The race will feature races for kids, families, veterans, and elite runners. Plus walkers and dogs are welcome. A press release says this year's race will support Yakima’s YWCA where "eliminating racism; empowering women" is the motto.

BIG DOLLARS IF YOU RUN FAST

There's a lot of prize money up for grabs. More than $60,000 in money will be available in competitive and elite races. Downtown Yakima Mile is free for runners 18 and under.
All other runners can register for $25. The event is set for 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Saturday, June 6 in Downtown Yakima.

The Elite Mile races bring together many of the fastest milers from around the nation in hopes of breaking the Fastest Mile in Washington - yet again - and taking home some big cash prizes. Sam Prakel currently holds the men's fastest mile in Washington time of 3:50.5 and Nikki Hiltz holds the women's record at 4:20.5.
