PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — An engineering lab is planning to add about 850 jobs as part of its expansion in Pullman.

The Spokesman-Review reports that Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories is planning a multi-million dollar expansion during the next year it its Pullman campus. The company has production facilities in Pullman, Lewiston, Indiana and Mexico.

The lab is planning to add two new buildings, one for research and development and the other for production.

The new positions created by the expansion will include engineers, software developers, technicians, administrators and accountants. Schweitzer officials say the jobs will add about $50 million in annual payroll costs once hiring is complete.

Schweitzer is currently the largest private employer in Whitman County and employs 2,200 in total across its locations.
