Yakima city crews are busy with a gas main installation project that will impact traffic on a section of South 1st Street during overnight hours for the remainder of this week.

Drivers can expect closures overnight from 7pm to 6am

A news release from the city says Brothers Construction needs to cross South 1st Street at Ranchrite Road (just south of Nob Hill Boulevard) to install an 8-inch high pressure gas main for Cascade Natural Gas. Because of the work, the Ranchrite Road section of South 1st Street will be in place during overnight work hours of 7:00 pm through 6:00 am starting Wednesday, October 20th. The overnight work and closures will continue Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, October 21-23.

City officials ask that drivers slow down when they see road work

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related works zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour. During the project, traffic delays in the area are likely to occur.  Drivers should use alternate routes until the project is completed.
Access to homes and businesses in the project area will be maintained as best as possible.
As always, the schedule for this type of a project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
For additional information about this project, contact Street Inspector Dan Riddle at 576-6464.
