Yakima County is hoping to help hundreds of small businesses in Yakima through a new grant program. Commissioner Vicki Baker says the county has $2.8 million available in  federal funding for small businesses in Yakima County. A news release says "the $2.8 million in new funding is in addition to the $187,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds, which are targeted to assist “micro businesses” and low-income business owners." County officials say they also secured $660,707 from the Commerce Department for resources to reduce transmission among the homeless.
The county has also announced the formation of a community coalition that will be tasked with assisting Yakima County small businesses, churches, and other organizations with their COVID-compliant reopening plans.

More details are expected to be released this week.
