Congrats Perry Tech - Excellent In Training Builders & Craftsmen

Think for just a moment about how powerful and important is the concept of "HOME".

Dorthy Gale said it for most of us when she wanted to leave OZ "There’s no place like home.” Former Secretary of Education, William J. Bennett accurately described a home as a port of sanctuary in a storm, “Home is a shelter from storms-all sorts of storms."

Think where we would be without the men and women of the home building industry? Fortunately, we don't have to because of the success story that is Perry Technical Institute’s Construction program. In fact, the Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW) has taken notice and visited Perry earlier this week to present $23,000 in grant funding and scholarships to 9 students pursuing careers in construction-related fields.

BIAW President Tracy Doriot says, "We’ve continued to grow our scholarship fund to encourage students to follow our path in the residential home-building industry...We know firsthand the satisfaction and success that comes from building the places people call home.”

“In this home… We do second chances. We do real. We do mistakes. We do I’m sorry. We do loud really well. We do hugs. We do together best of all.”

Since its inception, BIAW has awarded over $670,000 in scholarships and grants to students who have demonstrated a passion and commitment to developing a career in the home building industry and the programs that educate them. The BIAW is the voice of the housing industry as the state’s largest trade association with nearly 8,000 member companies responsible for roughly 188,000 jobs. And those are good paying jobs too.

According to the Association for Career and Technical Education, construction is one of the top 5 industries for “good jobs” that pay a median income of $55,000+ without a bachelor’s degree.
