Candidate Search Underway For County Commissioner Seat

Yakima County Commissioner Mike Leita is retiring at the end of the year and officials with the Yakima County Republican Party are looking for candidates. The Chair of the Yakima County Republican Central Committee Debra Manjarrez says if you are a registered voter in District 1 in the county you have until September 22 to declare your candidacy. She says on October 3 the Republican Party will hold an event at the Howard Johnson where they will hear from candidates and choose three people to fill the District 1 seat. Commissioners Norm Childress and Ron Anderson will then make the final choice. That person will then fill the remainder of Leita's seat and then run for re-election in 2020.
Three candidates are already campaigning for the position, Vicki Baker, Amanda Mckinney and Nolan Wence.
