The Yakima County Commission District #1 race is an interesting contest.  The incumbent is Yakima businesswoman Vicki Baker.  In 2019 she was appointed to the seat formerly held by Mike Leita.  Leita resigned early after serving 15 years and the two remaining commissioners ultimately appointed Baker to fill out the remaining year of Leita's term.

2020 arrives and Baker decided to run again, and after 8 months on the job finished second in the Primary with 34.7% of the vote.  The Primary winner was her opponent Yakima businesswoman Amanda McKinney who received 47.3%.

Baker's had a full plate as the County's lead agent on the Coronavirus and she says making progress has been difficult and frustrating but it's happening.

She has plenty of other ideas for improving government service for County residents and she shared some of them this morning on Newstalk KIT.
