The Yakima Valley was a busy place over the weekend. Thousands of people enjoyed the warm weather at campsites and parks, visiting the Moxee Hop Festival checking out the hot rods at the Vintiques show at State Fair Park. Area lakes and rivers were busy as people were looking for ways to cool off from the hot weather.

On Friday afternoon Yakima Fire Department crews were called to the Yakima River for a man stranded on a log jam. A news release says firefighters helped a 32-year-old man who was hanging onto a log in an area of the river north of Terrace Heights Way and south of a train trestle upriver.

A joint-agency Technical Rescue Team was called in and quickly rescued the man.

The man was not injured. He told authorities he and a friend had gone swimming and when he was stuck his friend tried to help him for several hours before they called authorities for help.
