The drama started Friday night.  A 7 hundred acre fire on the Ahtanum ridge that attracted a lot of attention both in terms of firefighters and onlookers.  The blaze could be seen from throughout the Yakima area.  People were evacuated as firefighters from a number of different departments went to work saving 6 homes in the path of the flames.  No injuries were reported.  The fire was out late Friday night and into Saturday morning.  The cause is under investigation.  It apparently started in an orchard at the base of the ridge.  Firefighters were also busy with an even larger fire near Wenas Lake.  The 16 hundred acre blaze destroyed a mobile home and 6 outbuildings.  It also threatened a number of other homes before it was contained.  No word on the cause of that fire.
