Dozens of suspicious fires have been reported near the Yakima Greenway this year and the latest happened Thursday afternoon. Yakima Fire Department Capt. Jeff Pfaff. "We've been rather busy out there and it seems to be that same area basically from the railroad tracks to 16th."
Thursday's fire on North 6th Avenue was reported just before 3:00 p.m. Pfaff says the cause remains under investigation. He says they don't know who lit the fire but many homeless camps are near the area where the fire started.
As a result of the fire the Greenway path is closed from 6th Avenue to 16th Avenue.
Meanwhile Pfaff says fire investigators now say last Saturday's fire at the Lewisville Tavern is labeled as undetermined not suspicious.

Another suspicious fire in Yakima. Yakima Fire Department firefighters doused flames of a 2 acre fire on the Yakima Greenway on Thursday. The fire was reported at about 2:55 p.m. in the area of North 6th Avenue near U.S. Highway 12. The fire resulted in a lot of smoke that forced the closure of the westbound lane of Highway 12 for about 2 hours while firefighters battled the flames. No injuries were reported. Yakima Fire Department Capt. Jeff Pfaff says the fire was human caused and remains under investigation.

The fire is one of many suspicious fires reported on the Yakima Greenway in 2018.
