“An American in Paris” musical visits Yakima's Downtown Rotary on January 9th

The creative team for the musical An American in Paris will present a unique look at theater work on Thursday, with club meeting beginning about 12:15 pm with Rotary business and the program starting  at about 12:40 pm.

Members of the creative team for An American in Paris will share stories about the process of bringing the show to life, adapting it for touring, and polishing all the elements that result in the quality productions we expect for events in the Capitol Best series.

The addition of the Production Center and 4th Street Theatre as part of the Capitol Theatre facilities about 10 years ago has helped  Yakima to play a larger role in crafting the productions that are a vital part of the Capitol Best series. Producers preparing productions for the road bring together all the production pieces, artists, and technicians for 10-days to 3 weeks partnering with the Capitol to put the final touches on the show to make it tour-ready.

In this case the show, "An American in Paris". is a musical  based on the 1951 film of the same name starring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron,  incorporating songs from George and Ira Gershwin.  The show opened on Broadway in April 2015 winning several Tony Awards.
