The Morning News on KIT is part of "the media".  We cover news and then we comment about it from a conservative perspective.  We make no false claims to phony impartiality in our conversations.

As such, I wouldn't call us part the mainstream  (MSM) or lamestream media which protests any challenges to the bias-free coverage in its reports, but we ARE in the media.  We just aren't afraid to call out or media brothers and sisters and even ourselves when we make a mistake.  Truth is that some mistakes are more honest than others.  It's the degree of that perceived "honesty" that makes the difference.

The public will forgive the honest mistake but those who seem to specialize in flitting around the edges of the truth have earned a distinction.   A new report shows that U.S. trust in the news media is the lowest in the free world.

According to the Patriot Post, new data from Reuters’ latest Digital News Report shows the degree to which Americans don’t trust the MSM, at least in relation to people in the rest of the world — the U.S. comes in dead last, ranking 46th out of 46.  Yikes.

How important is a free press?  The founding fathers knew.  In 1798  Congress wrote about themselves in the First Amendment To The Constitution - Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

They knew how important a free and fair press is to the successful continuation of the Republic.

Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost. -- Thomas Jefferson

Where the press is free and every man able to read, all is safe. -- Thomas Jefferson

But more than just be free from governmental influence and interference, the press must be free from allegiance to any particular political party or ideology.

KIT has been a FOX News Affiliate for a number of years now and the Reuters report report says,  “Cable news channels Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC have some of the highest levels of distrust.

The Nation is divided, at least among the part of the population that's paying attention.

I would break it down to say that about half the population is checked out and about half are tuned in.  Of the half that's engaged, they are divided, with some being conservative and watching FOX and some being liberal and watching CNN and MSNBC and most of the rest of media outlets.

The Patriot Post writes, " in the U.S., the  has aligned itself with the Democrat Party, and media outlets push decidedly leftist political narratives rather than striving to report the news without bias. So, when Trump called the media the enemy of the people, he was accurately observing the fact that much of the MSM was willing to peddle leftist spin, propaganda, and outright fake news, not for the sake of informing the American public but for misleading and manipulating the public. This is the action of enemies, not friends. Many Americans don’t trust the media because they’ve seen “journalists” for what they are — a bunch of politically minded activists willing to push outright lies if it gets their preferred politicians into power."

The mainstream media had denied their bias for years and the viewing public became less trusting and more suspicious when what the MSM served up didn't square up with what the public knew to be true .  That limited trust has eroded even further now that the media makes virtually no attempt to disguise its own partisanship.  In other words, Americans don't trust the media because the media isn't trustworthy.

. The MSM is just reaping what it sows.
