Stop me if you've heard this one before...Democrats control Olympia and all branches of State Government and as a result, ideological left leaning legislators look to spend beyond our means and so new taxes are required.  Ta-DAH!  That has been the ongoing refrain from every single eastside conservative State Representative we have spoken with throughout this legislative session, including 15th District Republican Jeremie Dufault.

Rep. Dufault says the State Budget has doubled in the last 15 years.  Our great Washington State economy has been able to provide but now he says the appetite for spending has grown to the point that the legislature is pushing a tax on capital gains, in essence an unconstitutional income tax that voter have rejected 10 times in the past.

Dufault expects such a tax on income will start with the highest dollar earners but will ultimately "trickle down" to all taxpayers.  He also expects legal appeals will be filed immediately.

On the prospect of increasing Washington's gas tax, already the nation's third highest, Default says he expects that too and he can see Washington ending up having the highest gas tax in the country.

There is a saying in conservative circles that goes, "Any government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have."  That sounds like something Representative Dufault might say.  He's a big believer in personal responsibility and doesn't think government can or should try to provide everything for everyone, and he fears that's what we see happening in Washington
