After a very chilly Friday night tree lighting ceremony, the city of Yakima is diving head first into the holiday spirit with several events occurring before Christmas.

Free tours of Downtown Yakima aboard horse drawn carriages will be offered each Saturday before Christmas from noon to 4:00 p.m. with a night ride on Dec. 13 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The free carriage rides start and end at Millennium Plaza and last approximately 20 minutes.

Dec. 8 will showcase the annual Yakima Symphony Orchestra's Christmas Pops Spectacular at the Capitol Theatre at 4:00 pm and conclude with the 14th Annual Yakima Holiday Light Parade from 6th Avenue to the Millennium Plaza.

The Orion Cinema will show the classic "It's a Wonderful Life" on Dec. 10 and the Capitol Theatre will host The Nutcracker Dec. 14 for two performances.

One of the world’s most celebrated Elvis Presley impersonators, Danny Vernon, will present a tribute to Elvis’ Blue Christmas Dec. 12 in the Seasons Performance Hall at 7:00 p.m.

The Grammy-winning gospel legends Blind Boys of Alabama Christmas Show hits the Seasons Performance Hall Dec. 18.
