The Yakima Airport is set to land a huge investment.

Yakima city officials have announced the airport has received a $10,000,000 grant for airport improvements. Yakima City Councilman Dave Ettl says the city didn’t expect to get such a large grant from the Federal Government.

The money will be used for improved lighting and an expansion of runways. It'll also be used to help refurbish the airport terminal.

The city is loaning the airport $1,000,000 so that the airport can qualify for the grant. The airport will then repay the city over the next three years from passenger fees.

City officials say the money is a big bright spot for the airport which will see major improvements over the next two years.
