It’s tough to let go of the old ideas.  But I can’t argue with science which says that contrary to myth, it's not the amino acid tryptophan in turkey that makes you sleepy after eating dinner on Thanksgiving Day.

The turkey truth is that there isn't enough tryptophan to induce that trip to dream land or to send you into that food coma.  So, there goes my “look smarter than I am” post dinner monologue.

OK science, I’m not going to take this lying down…and snoozing.  Oh no! If you take away that tidbit of talk, what do you give in return—what is it that triggers so many open mouth naps?!

NationalGeographic.com explains that scientists pin the blame on a number of factors including drinking alcohol, the large amount of calories consumed during an average Thanksgiving meal, and just relaxing after stressful work and holiday prep schedules.

Do I agree? Not sure. I’m going to have to sleep on it.  Happy Thanksgiving!
