The Washington Traffic Safety Commission and Washington State Patrol are sounding the alarm about the large number of traffic deaths.

23-year-old Theolinda George was walking in a crosswalk in the intersection when she was struck by a vehicle driving northbound.

During that time, the suspect made multiple statements to the effect of “this is the end."

Washington State Patrol Troopers say 38-year-old Sara Bassett was driving southbound on State Route 97 10 miles south of Toppenish when her vehicle crossed the center line and struck another vehicle.

Troopers say the two-car crash in Toppenish happened on the afternoon of May 27 on State Route 22 at the intersection of North Track Road.

The crash was reported at about 2:30 pm when 23-year-old Travis Taft of Yakima was driving westbound on Highway 12 trying to pass another vehicle

There is no individual exception or “out of state waiver” to the studded tire dates.

Troopers have been busy with deadly crashes over the last two years. They say in 2021 670 fatal crashes were reported.

Washington State Patrol Troopers say 22-year-old Homero Lemus is behind bars after being arrested on Monday.

Thursday morning a Washington State Trooper was injured when his vehicle was struck while on the side on the road.
