The march starts at 12:00 pm at Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and North 5th Avenue.

Each year the annual MLK March is held on streets in downtown Yakima but this year it's a virtual only event.

Activities are planned for MLK Day in Yakima and Toppenish beginning January 10th through January 17th, 2022.

Instead of the march the organizers plan a week of activities leading up to the national holiday of January 18

The groundbreaking ceremony is set for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27. The park is located at East Race Street and South 9th Street.

During the march Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard will be closed from North 6th Avenue to North 8th Street. In addition, 8th Street will be closed from Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to Yakima Avenue.

The Yakima City Council is now waiting to see three concept designs for a proposed outdoor pool at Martin Luther King Jr. Park.

This event is being held nationwide in memory of the slain American civil rights leader.

Gutierrez has lead the city effort to open a new pool in the near future.

With a steady drum cadence, an honor guard, a police escort and several Yakima Transit buses trailing behind, about 200 people joined a mile-and-a-half-long peace walk through Yakima to honor the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday.
