SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Mariners have selected high school pitcher Nick Neidert and college pitcher Andrew Moore with their two selections on the first day of the Major League Baseball draft.

Seattle made the picks on Monday night. Neidert, a right-handed pitcher from Peachtree Ridge High in Lawrenceville, Georgia, was taken at No. 60 overall. Moore, a right-hander from Oregon State, was selected at No. 72 overall.

Seattle was without a first-round selection after signing Nelson Cruz in free agency.

Neidert was ranked as the No. 55 overall prospect by Baseball America, despite a slender frame at 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds. He's got a strong fastball and has signed to play collegiately at South Carolina.

Moore was a three-year starter for the Beavers and a first-team all-Pac-12 selection in 2015. Moore was 7-2 with a 1.91 ERA and 111 strikeouts versus just 21 walks this season for Oregon State.
